TERO TOIVANEN

Tero el tresero FronterI am a musician specializing in Cuban music, a Master of Arts in Education from Turku University, and a retired special education teacher.  I have been teaching programming to both teachers and students since 2012.

I began my musical studies at the Espoo Music Institute (1973-1982) double bass was my main instrument. I studied at the Turku Conservatory (1982-1986).

I lived in Santiago de Cuba for nine years from 1992 to 2001 and worked as a professional musician playing tres in Casa de la Trova.

I am currently retired. I used to work at Kilonpuisto School and Karhusuo School as a special education teacher teaching autistic pupils. I have played in numerous domestic and foreign bands.

In Cuba I played in the following bands: Conjunto Guitarras y Trovadores (1992-2001), Cuarteto Daiquirí, Changüí Santiago, Quinteto Luz, and Los Cumbancheros.

Some Cuban music bands I have played in Finland are Septeto Son (1982-1992, 2002-2022), Orquesta Aché, Los Gigantes, Trío la Cachimba, Habana-Helsinki, etc.
